Tehecatl is not just my hunting buddy, after all who hunts with an eagle right? No Tehecatl, Cal for short, is my Nagual...a literal piece of my soul.
In my heritage, the soul is divided into three parts. The first is the yollotl, the heart, the second is the tonal, the spark of life that was, essentially, what Westerners call the soul, the third is the nagual, the shadow soul, the animal twin. The Nagual is a spirit animal existing somewhere in the world with whom a person shared their very soul.
My father retrieved him from the Overworld and brought him to me at visitation. Cal is the perfect hunter. He is focused and utterly devoid of emotion when there is a need to kill, but he does so with great respect for the lives he takes. He has also suffered from the loss of memory I have, due to him being a part of me. But I get the feeling something bothers him about me and I don't know what...and neither does he. This memory loss thing is a bitch. Hopefully in time we will both remember who we are and what we've been through.
Benjamin Chase: Pepper actually remembers some stuff from before, but since as far as I can tell she's a pretty normal falcon, it's not anything of real use.
ReplyDeleteShe's told me of places with tall buildings for her to fly between and not much prey. She doesn't put the same importance on things that we do.
Xamantalpalli: I understand...Cal keeps referring to her as "the lesser bird"...he needs to learn to keep his pride in check.
ReplyDeleteRhia: Does that mean the connection Ben has with Pepper is somewhat the same with you and Cal, Tal? If so ... oooh, yet another thing in common!
ReplyDeleteBen: The connection is different, because Pepper is a creature in her own right, rather than actually a piece of myself. When I speak to her, it's less crazy than when Tal speaks to Cal.
ReplyDeleteTal: Hey! There is nothing crazy about Cal and I. He is still his own being...the best way to describe it is that we were born at the same moment and our souls became intwined. Many people do not survive finding their Nagual, because they are a part of your soul you do not know about. Once confronted with it, most pairs errupt into vicious fights.
ReplyDeleteTal: and Rhia don't even start....
ReplyDeleteRhia: Start?! Start what? I was just observing a possible common ground for you two. I can't believe you're accusing me of starting something ... geez.
ReplyDeleteKelly: *giggles*
